Why Wait Till The New Year To See Our New Look

frontofsalonAs we celebrate our 10 year Anniversary in February 2020 its all change for Sinead Kelly London. Moving into 2020 the salon’s reputation has gone from strength to strength as we pave the way to being one of London’s go-to salons. Now is the time that salon owners and power couple Sinead and Andy decided to give the salon a modern and luxurious look.

No expense was spared in the quarter of a million pound refit as Sinead and Andy worked tirelessly with builders, light engineers and furniture suppliers to create a space that truly represented the brand and the new direction SKL are going in. From the moment you walk into the salon you are greeted by one of the members of the SKL family at the modern reception area, directly behind is a bespoke shelving unit displaying the trophies and awards the salon has won; the latest of which being the coveted L’Oreal Colour Trophy. Sinead and Vas (the resident colour specialist) nabbed the trophy in June 2019 in a record breaking win, Vas being the only colourist to ever win the award twice. We are very excited to announce that Sinead and Vas will be showcasing their winning look on the world stage when they venture to Milan in March 2020 for the International Colour Trophy. The

trophy takes pride of place, showcasing the in-salon talent you can expect when visiting.trophy1

Next to this is a salon1private consultation table for new clients who wish to discuss hair colour, cut and style options as well as existing clients who might want a more in-depth consultation prior to their appointment if looking for a change.

You are then guided through to an impeccably designed salon floor; pendant lights and soft furnishings from West Elm bring warmth to an ultra chic and modern space. The lighting ranges from track lighting that runs across the ceiling, reminiscent of Hollywood film sets, to golden pendant globes above sections and on the walls to mirror backlighting all carefully selected to create the correct ambience. The main lighting is flattering to the client and ensures your colour tone is exactly as it should be.

A ‘community’ table stretches along the central part of the salon, designed by Sinead and made reality by the fine Italian brand Maletti. This table means clients and stylists can work opposite each other promoting a social and community feel. The mirrors that divide each section can be removed in order to hold meetings with staff or cresalon2ative discussions to ensure the team are always at the forefront of fashion and new trends. All seating is also Maletti and made of beautiful Italian leather to ensure the utmost comfort during your visit.

Sinead and Andy worked alongside L’Oreal Professionel and Kerastase to create a hair bathing area luxurious in treatments and products, exquisite in design and most importantly an environment of relaxation, tranquillity and indulgence. Massage chairs with rising footrests mean you can choose exactly how you prefer to enjoy this integral part of your salon visit. Sonos is installed throughout the salon and calming, dulcet spa music fills the hair bathing area in contrast to the upbeat deep house sounds that brings vibrancy and fun to the main salon. Every tiny but important detail has been thought through to ensure Sinead Kelly London remains at the forefront of excellent service as well as fashion. It provides a high-end and lavish experience very rarely found outside central London salons, showcasing why theysalon4 are the go-to salon for colour and current national winners of one of the biggest awards in the country. The team are more like a family and this will be instantly noticeable when visiting as a warm and friendly environment is integral to the salon’s success.

2020 is a very exciting year for Sinead Kelly London. Sinead and her highly trained team look forward to welcoming you into this new space of creativity, fashion and design in order to give you the highest level of service and care in London hairdressing. As we raise a toast to a fantastic decade of SKL we also raise a toast to the next, making sure we continue to go from strength to strength and keep our reputation of excellence in one of the world’s most fashion washareaforward and thrilling cities.

Hair contouring: The individually-tailored beauty trend

    jess_hair_480

First there was face contouring, made famous by the one and only Kim Kardashian, where darker and lighter shades of make up are applied to create shape and accent specific facial features. Then hair contouring followed and hair stylists never looked back.

The secret to hair contouring is  identifying face shape. A professional hair stylist will do this for you during a consultation, as well as discussing what features you wish to accentuate. But here’s our guide to the different shapes if you’re looking in the mirror at home:

Round face: The length and width of your face are about the same. Usually characterised by a shorter forehead and chin with a rounded jawline.

Emma Stone and Cameron Diaz have classic round face shapes

Square face: The length, width and jawline are just about equal in size. Characteristics are similar to those of the round face, with a sharper jawline.

Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley both have square face shapes

Rectangular face: This face shape is longer than it is wide but with a more defined angular jawline and a broader forehead.

Kristen Stewart has a classic rectangular face shape

Oblong face: Your face is noticeably longer than wide, with a broad forehead, cheekbones and jaw line. The shape will roughly resemble a rectangle with softer corners.

Cara Delevigne has a classic oblong face shape

Heart shape: The face is defined by a wider forehead and a narrow pointed chin, similar in shape to an inverted triangle.

Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon both have heart shaped faces

Oval shape: Your face will resemble an egg shape. This is often considered the hourglass of face-shapes and is desirable due to its versatility.

Beyoncé is well-known for her oval face shape

Once you know your face shape, the detailed placement of colour and choice of complementary tones can work together to instantly make your face seem more defined and your favourite features emphasised. For example, for a round face it is common to strobe with light colour at the front and add darker colour to the back to soften the features.

Contouring is fairly low maintenance and regrowth is much more manageable than block colour.

All the stylists and colourists at Sinéad Kelly London are trained in hair contouring and know all the secrets to creating the perfect, personalised look. Ask them to show you in your next appointment: bit.ly/SKLcontact

    Colour transformation with Vas Mikellides

Vas Mikellides is Sinéad Kelly London’s Colour Expert. Qualified as a L’Oreal Colour Specialist he is at the top of his industry game, and there’s nothing he doesn’t know about achieving the perfect hair colour; from subtle highlights to radical colour changes he is paving the way for beautiful hair transformations.

When Gitanna came to the salon looking to update her hair colour from a mixture of coppers and browns to a dramatic pearly blonde, we knew Vas was the man for the job. When you’re as passionate about colour as Vas is, it’s these types of clients that really excite you.

Thanks to the introduction of OLAPLEX, the product taking the hairdressing world by storm, dramatic colour changes are now possible, without destroying the condition of the hair.

    IMG_7475

Q1: How do you start a big transformation like Gitanna’s?

Vas: I start off with cleansing the hair to remove all the old colours, which will reveal the raw undercoat of the hair. Don’t be shocked when you come back to the basin with a colour Vivienne Westwood would think was a bit on the ‘orange’ side’; this is a vital process in achieving the colour you want.

    IMG_7476

Q2: Does this mean if you want to be icy blonde there will still be some warmth in the hair?

Vas: This is where you can’t rush such a big change. The second stage was to apply back-to-back foils, covering every inch of hair but leaving the natural root. I added OLAPLEX into the mixture at this stage, to ensure we preserve the condition of the hair whilst lifting it the lightest colour possible.

    IMG_7477

Q3: So once the hair has lifted does that mean she’s now a platinum blonde?

Vas: If only it was that easy! Once the foils have been rinsed I add OLAPLEX no.2 to the hair and leave it to do its magic while I select the toner. This will give Gitanna the really cool icy blonde colour that is bang on trend this season. L’Oreal Dialight is my first choice for any toning. Once the toner had been rinsed out I opted for Kerastase Bain Force Architect to shampoo and Ciment Anti-Usure as a conditioner as this system replaces the protein in the hair that may have been stripped in the lightening process.

Q4: Won’t the hair feel dry and brittle after so much lightening?

Vas: As stylists, this used to be our biggest fear when clients wanted such dramatic changes, however with the introduction of OLAPLEX and with good after care products this isn’t an issue anymore. It’s important to replace both moisture and protein after a big colour change so when drying the hair I used Kerastase Nectar Thermique to give it a real moisture boost.

    Q5: What about after care?

Vas: There’s a reason it’s called ‘Platinum Blonde’…being such a high maintenance colour can be pricey. Always make sure you use good quality products and would definitely recommend a purple shampoo like L’Oreal Shine blonde to keep it from going brassy. Ensuring your roots are touched up will help keep the cost down; as less root means less product, time and money.

Our guide to Christmas Party Hair 2015

    LP_UK_ID_PWC_GROUP-HD

The Christmas festivities kicked off early this year, with houses trimmed in November and shops selling out of gifts before you can say the words Black Friday.

Starting early isn’t all bad; it gives us more time to pick out our outfits for the Christmas Party and decide how we’re going to wear our hair.

If you’re looking for a little inspiration, here’s the Sinéad Kelly London guide to the top 5 party styles of 2015

    1. The simple chignon

A classic look for a classy evening. Partnered with a drop-waist dress and heeled boots this simple style is simply stunning.

    1. The mermaid wave

Perfect for those with long hair looking to create a glam, red carpet look. The mermaid curls are well loved by celebrities including Amanda Seyfried and Naomi Harris and it’s not hard to see why. Dare to wear your curls with a low V cut dress.

    1. The plaited bun

Sophisticated chic for those evenings filled with fizz and fancy canapés. Choose a thick or thin plait to wrap around a tight bun for a style that will see you into the early hours. A floor length dress with diamante stud earrings will complete this look.

    1. The bushy ponytail

Add the wow factor to your girl’s night out with the ultimate ponytail. Worn with a low back dress this volumised pony will stay in one place throughout the night, and away from your face on the dance floor.

    5. The soft plait

This hairstyle will look effortless but will guarantee to be noticed. Use all the hair in a soft hold down the middle to complement a high-necked dress or crisp long sleeved shirt
