We Win A London Lifestyle Awards Trophy

    skl-lla-ft

We have a positive update for you on the London Lifestyle Awards. Last month, we blogged about how we were shortlisted as one of the top 17 salons in London. Now we can say that we’re at the top of that list. Just look at the prize that we picked up on the night (above).

At a glamorous awards ceremony in The Brewery in central London, Sinéad joined the best of the capital’s businesses across a wide range of industries for a night of drinks, dinner and the winners’ announcements. The room was filled with all of the best known companies in London from the celebs’ favourite nightclub Tape to hotels like The Mondrian and theatre shows like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – there were some serious movers and shakers there.

It was actually quite nerve-wracking knowing that we were up against London’s elite, so we knew we had to put a bit of effort into getting ready so that we’d feel confident. You know that feeling of looking in the mirror and liking what you see so you feel like you fit in – we wanted that! Sinéad went for a stunning dress from Three Floor (available from ASOS), sultry smokey eyes and a long ponytail hairstyle in the end. Posing with friend and journalist Zoe Griffin, she looks so striking doesn’t she?

    skl-dress

The hair was the talking point as Sinéad normally opts for a classic blow-dried wavy style. Have you ever seen her with her hair in a ponytail? Or so much hair? Ok, we know she has voluminous hair but this is longer than she usually wears it and that’s because of Easilocks.

    skl-hair

The hair is from the Megan Mckenna Easilocks range and Sinéad made it look more interesting by styling it into a pony tail. It’s really easy to use to create attention-grabbing up-dos as well as seriously bouncy blow dries. Once in the ponytail, Sinead wrapped her own hair around it, pinned it and then created a couple of braids to make things more interesting and to add a touch of a modern-day grown up fairytale look. Kind of like a sexy version of Elsa from Frozen…

    Elsa-frozen

When Sinéad Kelly London was announced as runner-up, everyone turned to look so it was worth dressing up. We shared a table with the amazing gym, The Library and The Little Library (our neighbours in Barnes). Do check out their website if you want to get in shape or just be a healthier version of yourself.

    skl-library

The awards were voted for by the public, so it means a lot to receive one as it’s not just a team of judges that have decided that we do a good job, its our clients themselves and we love making our clients happy. Another special thing is that this honour shows Sinéad has been accepted in London. It’s not easy to come to London from Dublin and start up a new salon and Sinéad Kelly London has only been going 7 years. In that time, Sinéad’s had two children and got married and awards like this make it worth the hard work. Hopefully, Sinéad winning one inspires other women and working mothers that they can do something similar if they focus and stay fixed on their goals.

Thanks to everyone who voted for us. It means a lot!

    Oscars 2017: Hair Highlights

    oscarshair-17

It’s the most glamorous night of the year, and the Oscars 2017 did not disappoint! There may have been confusion on stage as La La Land were told halfway through their acceptance speech that they hadn’t won Best Picture, but the stars’ outfits were smooth and sleek.

It’s not only inspiring in terms of fashion, but we can learn a lot from looking at the celebrities’ hair. Their stylists have designed styles that have to last all night as the red carpet starts at 4pm and the after-parties go on until at least 4am. Not only that, but they can’t afford to have a stray hair anywhere as the stars know that they’re going to be posing for photos and talking to TV camera crews all night long and the cameras always detect frizz!

Fortunately, there were some stunning hair styles – both down and up – that we can look at and recreate for our next big night out. It’s easier than you think to look like an Oscar winner with your hair as most of the styles work because of their simplicity. Let’s have a closer look at six of the most special styles at The Oscars 2017:

    Nicole Kidman

    oscars-nic

Nicole looked statuesque in a long beige maxi dress that had some gorgeous beading embellishment. To properly show off the detail on her dress she went for a soft up do with a loose low bun. It’s a look worn by actresses on red carepts for years as it’s not too harsh on her face but it means that she doesn’t have to worry about what her hair looks like as it’s back and up.

    Emma Stone

    oscars-emma

The Best Actress winner has a signature style of wearing waves in her lovely red hair and she stayed true to the tried and tested at The Oscars. Sinéad Kelly London specialises in creating blowdries with a vintage wave – we can easily help you achieve this Oscar-winning hair style!

    Jessica Biel

    oscar-jessbiel

When you have a dress with so many sequins, you just want to let them shine, don’t you? Jessica, married to the equally gorgeous Justin Timberlake, looks fierce in her gold dress with slicked back hair. When she turned around, we could see that her hair was all rolled up in a chignon. Again, this is not a complicated look but works beautifully with her dress.

    Naomie Harris

    oscars-naomie

It was great to see a British actress at the awards ceremony and Naomie looked lovely with her hair super straight and behind her ears. The benefit of a style like this is her stylist could carry some mini straighteners in her handbag and touch it up throughout the night. If you have naturally straight hair, you’ll find this style easier to pull off for an elegant, sophisticated and neat look.

    Hailee Steinfeld

    oscars-hailee

The American actress read out the Best Actress award and got it right and she also got it right with her dress and hair. In fact, her double bun style was one of the most fashion-forward of the night. It’s fresh and fun and a little bit different. If you want to create a talking point, this is the style for you!

    Felicity Jones

    oscars-felicity

The British actress looked so pretty with her half-up and half-down style. It’s soft and feminine and because the hair’s off her face, it won’t frizz. A half-up, half-down style is a classic one for formal balls and dinners and also for wedding hair as you still look like yourself, but without the worry of frizz. What’s not to like about that?

Who do you think had the best hair style? Does it inspire you for your next big night out? Bring a photo to the salon when you come in for your party hair and we’ll be happy to help you to look like an Oscar winner!

Golden Globes 2017: Party Hair Inspiration

    golden-globes-ft

The Golden Globes has kicked off awards season in style! Every year, there are several awards ceremonies before The Oscars climax at the end of February, which means we get to see a lot of glamorous dresses and fabulous hair and make-up ideas for the next couple of months. When the stars are invited to an awards ceremony like this it’s vital for them to look their best or it could harm their career!

The Globes is a great event as it honours film and TV so we see even more stars than we would do at The Oscars. However, some celebs did the red carpet better than others. Below are our picks of the stars whose hair looked more than alright on the night. If you have nights out planned over the next few of months, then you can use this blog post as inspiration as hairstyles like this will be in fashion for the whole of awards season. Like one look a lot more than most? Save it on your phone and show the Sinéad Kelly team when you’re next in the salon and we’ll help you recreate that A’list style so you can arrive at your event feeling like a celebrity.

    Let’s have a closer look:

    Naomie Harris

    golden-globes-2017-naomie-harris

The Bond actress channeled the golden age of Hollywood with her hair swept over her shoulder and styles into loose waves. It’s chic and sophisticated – just like her stunning dress!
All you need for this look is a pair of big barrelled tong. Section your hair and wrap each section round the tong and finish with hairspray. It won’t take you long, but you will feel a million dollars all night.

    Heidi Klum

    golden-globe-awards-heidi-klum
The America’s Got Talent presenter worked the classic half-up, half-down style to keep her hair neat and away from her face without it looking too severe. When some of your hair is down, it looks softer and more feminine, which is what we all want isn’t it?

This is a really easy look to achieve. Blow dry your hair straight and then use a large brush to pull back the top and sides. Secure with a grip or a band and you’re red carpet ready!

    Reese Witherspoon

    r

You couldn’t get much blonder than Reese right now, and she’s chosen that hair colour as it compliments her yellow dress. She’s like a ray of sunshine on a cold red carpet! The side fringe is very trendy right now and softens the look so she looks pretty rather than bold. What do you think?

    Chrissy Teigen

    globes-chrissy
The model and new mum swept her hair back from her face in a severe ponytail. As her bone structure is so gorgeous and her make-up is on point it really suits how. It’s not an easy look to pull off as it accentuates the features but if you want to be bold and make a statement, this is a good hairstyle to do it in. The extra benefit is that when your hair is scrapes back, your dress takes centre stage and Chrissy’s ruffle dress demands attention.

    Emma Stone

    globs-emma
She won an award for La La Land and she gets our vote for having one of the best hairstyles of the night. Her auburn colour makes her hair super glossy and shiny. Not only does she have the uber fashionable long bob, she also looks more youthful thanks to a side fringe.

    Felicity Jones

    globes-fel

The British actress looks quirky and cute with a long fringe that almost covers her eyes. This is a sympathy-inducing style. It’s not wild or showy, but it kind of makes it look as if you are shy and want to hide behind your fringe. And that makes people want to take you under their wings. It’s cute!

    Sienna Miller

    globes-sienna

Sienna’s wearing white so if she did anything too elaborate with her hair there would be the danger that she looks like she’s going to a wedding rather than an awards ceremony. She turns to the trusty hairstyle for boho babes like herself – braids. Although you can’t see the back, this is a soft French pleat with bits pulled out around the face to make it more ethereal and feminine. Sienna’s a great ambassador for British style in this look.

    Amy Adams

    globes-amy
Sometimes, we all just want to indulge our inner diva and Amy Adams is the ideal example. Not only is her dress sparkly and tight, but she shows it off perfectly with slicked back, super sleek hair. It’s a fabulous look for a night out and very easy to achieve with some heavy duty styling gel and hairspray on blow dried and straightened hair.

Whose hairstyle did you like the most? We love making our clients look the best they can so if you have a particular look in mind, just let us know!

Plus, to win the International L’Oréal Professionnel Young Talent Award at the first ever International L’Oréal Professionel Style & Colour Trophy is a big deal. The awards took place at the Meo Arena in front of an International audience of over 2000 hairdressers from 65 countries.

This video shows the atmosphere on the night as our model Natasha Underwood showed off her blue bob to the jury. Then we found out we’d won and Vas gave a little speech:

The  international Jury comprised of 5 top experts: Heath Grout from the USA,Harumi Iwakami from Kakimoto Arms Japan, Sally & Jamie Brooks, Brooks & Brooks UK and Cecile Piel-Benson, International Technical Director, L’Oréal Professional Product, selected the winners.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The L’Oréal Professionnel Style & Colour Trophy is the longest running live hair competition in the world. First launched in the UK in 1954 and focused only on colour, it has spread globally, from Canada to New Zealand, Taiwan to Argentina, and has been extended to styling since 2016 to reward the top experts in this field.  It has always stressed the importance of not only showing technical expertise in ensuring the hair is kept in great condition, but also the importance of creating an on-trend total look (with hair colour, cut & style, make-up and clothes complementing the model).

    world1-closeup

The salon already attracts clients from all across London and the South East and since winning the UK colour trophy, we’ve had calls from customers all around the country.

For our winning look colourist Vas Mikellidis and stylist Sara Bergantini created a fashion forward Autumn/Winter 2016/17 look based on the denim trend on model Natasha Underwood.

However, a lot of work went into creating this fashion-forward style. Our journey began in January, when we came up with a concept. Vas used his drawing skills to come up with this mood board:

    IMG_3468-design

The first part of the colour trophy competition required a photographic entry, and we sent off our photos of Natasha’s transformation. It took a long time to create the blue bob, because she started off as a brunette as you can see from the photo below:

    STAGE ONE

    IMG_3465

The second stage of the process was to dye the hair a yellow shade of blonde as you can see from the next photo below:

    STAGE TWO

    IMG_3462

The third stage was the most time-consuming as we took Natasha from yellow blonde to white blonde. This is because any traces of yellow in her hair would turn the blue dye into a green shade and so we had to make her hair completely white. It took 15 hours to do this as the hair needed to be bleached twice. While this was going on, we kept her hair in immaculate condition with in-salon Pro Fiber and take-home Pro-Fiber.

Only when it was white blonde did the colour go on and we ended up with our winning blue look:

    STAGE THREE

    IMG_3467-finish

Our photographic entry secured us a place in the regional heats , where we impressed the judges with our live hairdressing skills and fashion led look.

    STAGE FOUR

    lct_2016_6W5A7388

We won the UK final after a tense competition. The UK final lasted all day and night, starting with an full day of competition at the L’Oréal International Academy in London’s Hammersmith. The judges, leaders in the industry, were: Issie Churcher from HOB, Steve Rowbottom from Westrow, Paul Dennison from Ken Picton, Errol Douglas MBE, Richard Ward from Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa and Adam Percy from Percy & Reed who were given the task of selecting the nine regional winners and the ultimate winner from the final 36 finalists

    They picked us!

    STAGE FIVE

We travelled to Lisbon, Portugal for a few days. We were surrounded by talented teams from Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Czech Rep & Slovakia, Great Britain, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Korea, New Zealand, Poland, Mexico and Taiwan.

Then our name was read out and we went on stage to collect flowers and the prestigious trophy.

Sinead Kelly London Win The L’Oreal Colour Trophy 2016

    1080LCT16 WINNER_with Presenters

We have some exciting news! The Sinéad Kelly London team are the grand final winners of the prestigious L’Oreal Colour Trophy 2016, as well as the winners of the London heats.

    1080LCT16_WINNER_Sinead Kelly_London

It’s a real cause for celebration as the L’Oreal Colour Trophy is the Oscars of the hairdressing world. There’s tough competition from more than 1000 salons across the UK in what is the hairdressing industry’s longest running and most fashion-led hairdressing awards.

Salons must create an inspirational, well-executed and on trend colour on a female model and it’s a real honour to have won as this means we have been judged the best salon in the whole of the UK. We were the only independent salon among the 35 teams in the grand final and beat 500 salons in the regional finals, and L’Oreal say this is a huge achievement.

For our winning look colourist Vas Mikellidis and stylist Sara Bergantini created a fashion forward Autumn/Winter 2016/17 look based on the denim trend on model Natasha Underwood. With bold make-up by Cristiana Maxim, the blue colour really shone through.

After a tough judging process, we all travelled to the luxury intercontinental Hotel at The O2 in London for drinks and a five course meal. But what everyone really cared about was who the winners were! Each of the models showcased their hair in a stunning catwalk show to the 1500 hair industry experts in the room.

    GrandFinalPano

The esteemed judging panel each agreed that Sinéad Kelly London had perfectly met the brief, the model look was a perfect example of beautifully executed colour and demonstrated a clear understanding of the latest catwalk trends and they were named as the overall winner of the coveted title. We had won!

The party continued until the early hours of the morning – if you can’t celebrate when you’re named as the best salon in the UK, when can you?
